Tuesday basketball notes: Austin to get MRI

Although OJ Mayo acknowledged on Tuesday that he has been bothered by a sore toe, he is certain to play on Thursday against Oklahoma. Not so for some of his teammates. Sophomore Kyle Austin, who has been held out of recent games with a sore back, was scheduled to undergo an MRI on Tuesday night. Freshman guard Marcus Simmons (ankle) is also unlikely to play in either of USC’s upcoming home games. And freshman center Mamadou Diarra did participate in some drills on Tuesday for the first time since his hernia surgery, but is still “a long way down the road” from appearing in a game, in the words of coach Tim Floyd.
