Tuesday notes: Maiava, Griffen to start

The Trojan defense will get a pair of new starters for Thursday’s game against Arizona State, the team announced on Tuesday. Junior Kaluka Maiava is set to replace the injured Keith Rivers (ankle) at weakside linebacker, while freshman Everson Griffen will start at defensive end in place of Kyle Moore (hand). Both Moore and Rivers, however, were able to get in some contact work in Tuesday’s practice. Moore will definitely play in Thursday’s game; Rivers is possible, but not yet definite.

A familiar face will be returning to the starting lineup on offense: Sam Baker (hamstring) was cleared to resume his starting position at left tackle after missing almost a month of action.

The Trojans will fly out of Los Angeles just after 2:00 pm Wednesday, and will participate in a walk-through at Sun Devil Stadium in the early evening.
