Monday notes: The battle at left tackle
A few notes from Monday’s football practice session:
- Freshman tailback Broderick Green, who is redshirting this season thanks to undergoing foot surgery earlier this fall, suffered a setback when that same foot began bothering him again during Monday’s practice. He will be evaluated today.
- Butch Lewis and Charles Brown will compete this week for the starting left tackle job. Lewis started last week’s game in place of the injured Sam Baker (torn hamstring), who is also expected to miss the Cal game. Brown, however, has recently battled his way back from his own injuries.
- Despite some indication from the Trojan staff that RB Stafon Johnson reaggravated his sore foot during the end of the Oregon State game, Johnson claims that is not the case, and that he will be ready to go Saturday against the Bears. He is finally starting to look completely healthy in practice.
- Suspended (and possibly injured) cornerback Vincent Joseph dressed for Monday’s practice, but did not participate.
