In a subscriber-only article, Rivals has capsule updates on each of USC’s redshirting football players, including the latest addition to that list: freshman running back Broderick Green, who decided to redshirt just this week after missing the first half of the season with a foot injury. Some of the highlights:

• The players making the most impression on the service team are QB Mitch Mustain (who is sitting out this season as a transfer from Arkansas), WR Brandon Carswell and TE Rhett Ellison. Coaches opted to redshirt the latter two (healthy) freshmen to give them some more experience, although many practice onlookers have noted that Carswell has been more impressive than many of the other Trojan receivers. Ellison is expected to compete for the starting job next season (with returning TE Anthony McCoy, who has played sparingly this season). And Mustain, of course, will compete with Mark Sanchez for the starting quarterback position, which should prove an even more interesting battle now that each QB has experience as a starter.
• The other healthy redshirts include freshman QB Aaron Corp (who hasn’t played much, with Mustain getting the bulk of the action on the service team), PK Joe Houston, OL Michael Reardon (who is showing potential at a new position after shifting from defense to offense in training camp), LB Jordan Campbell (who was very recently moved from fullback), and DT DaJohn Harris (who is slowly improving his strength and technique after struggling with both earlier in the year).
• Several of the injured redshirts have shown recent improvement in their conditions. Freshman defensive lineman Trey Henderson has returned to practice in recent weeks and is learning to play DT in addition to DE. Transfer WR Damian Williams has seen action on the service team over the past week or so after finally recovering from a pair of shoulder surgeries. And OL Martin Coleman is expected to return to practice in about a month as he continues to recover from his own shoulder surgery.
