Free scrimmage on Sunday

The Trojan men’s basketball team will hold a free, intrasquad scrimmage this Sunday (October 28) at the Galen Center at 1:00p. Prior to the scrimmage, at 9:00a, the team is also sponsoring the second annual “Dribble for the Cure” charity event.

Some other basketball tidbits from this week:

  • The Sporting News ran a profile of OJ Mayo and discusses the good working relationship that he has with his coach, Tim Floyd. Floyd comments that Mayo is more advanced at this early stage than many of the Chicago Bulls rookies he coached were in their first year. In a separate article, the Sporting News discusses USC’s tough nonconference schedule this season, which Floyd says we would have attempted even had he known that Gabe Pruitt and Nick Young would not be returning.
  • The Press-Enterprise profiled fellow freshman guard Angelo Johnson, who has earned some big compliments from Mayo.
  • The Times profiled sophomore forward Kyle Austin, who is confident that he can work his way into the rotation this season after barely playing in his freshman year.
  • Freshman G Marcus Simmons (ankle) will not participate in the scrimmage due to his lingering injury. Fellow injured Trojans Dwight Lewis (knee) and Davon Jefferson (thigh) may be able to participate, but won’t be at full strength until next week at the earliest.
