Trojans fall to 10 in AP poll

A shocking defeat to the Stanford Cardinal on Saturday evening sent the preaseason’s top-ranked college football team even lower in the polls. The Trojans, who fell from 1 to 2 in last week’s AP poll after a poor showing against Washington, dropped to 10 in today’s media rankings. USC fell six places to #7 in both the USA Today and Harris Interactive polls.

Some of USC’s future opponents moved higher in this week’s rankings. Cal now occupies the #2 slot in each of the three polls, while Oregon is ahead of USC at 9 in the AP poll (8 in the USA Today and 10 in the Harris), and Arizona State is at 14 in the AP and Harris rankings (and 13 in the coaches’ poll). Nebraksa, whom the Trojans defeated earlier this season, fell out of the top 25.

Next Sunday will see the announcement of the first BCS rankings of the year.
