Hackett out for fall practice, opener
New Trojan point guard OJ Mayo is elbowing out the competition–literally. Mayo accidentally elbowed his teammate, sophomore point guard Daniel Hackett, in the face during a pickup game at the Galen Center on Thursday, resulting in a broken jaw for Hackett. Hackett had surgery on Friday and his jaw is now wired shut, preventing him from engaging in any athletic activity. He will miss a minimum of six weeks, including the entire month of fall practice and the Trojans’ November 10 opener against Mercer.
His likely replacement as starting point guard? Mayo. (Of course, Mayo may have started over him anyway.)
