Galippo to have back surgery
USC is reporting this afternoon that, as feared, freshman LB Chris Galippo will have back surgery next week, after being diagnosed today with a herniated disc. He will miss the remainder of the season, but will almost certainly be granted a medical redshirt and come back next season with four years of eligibility remaining.

Good for Chris! Sounds like it was a chronic issue - it’s better for him at this stage of his career to have it corrected, have 4 years of eligibility remaining, and be able to be fully healthy by the time fall practice begins. (Then again, might he be ready for Spring? Galaxy Don, do you have insight on this?)
