Trojans top first Harris poll

USC is atop the AP and USA Today college football rankings for the fifth consecutive week, according to poll results released Sunday. In addition, the Trojans also find themselves ranked first in the Harris Poll, which released its first ratings of the season today. The Harris and USA Today polls comprise the human-ranking portion of the BCS rankings, although we are still three weeks away from seeing the first BCS standings of the season.

Although the Trojans received 91 of the 114 possible first-place votes in the Harris rankings, they somehow lost three first-place votes to #2 LSU this week in the AP poll, despite an impressive victory over WSU. Other Pac-10 teams showing up in the rankings are Cal (at #6 in each of the three polls), Oregon (#11 in the AP, #12 in USA Today, #10 in Harris), and Arizona State (#23 in AP and Harris, but unranked by the coaches). Cal and Oregon play each other on Saturday.
