Should USC split with the Simpson legacy?

Paul Oberjuerge of the LA Daily News, like just about every other print news outlet and cable news program, is writing about O.J. Simpson this week. His angle, however, is to implicate USC for its refusal to formally distance itself from the Heisman Trophy winner by removing Simpson’s jersey and Heisman Trophy from Heritage Hall. Pete Carroll, who was criticized for allowing Simpson to attend a 2003 Orange Bowl practice, remarked,

I think it’s a statement of a time, back in the ’60s, when accomplishments were made…I think it’s something that is part of the past of this university. I don’t think what’s going on now has a lot to do with it.
