PG Johnson cleared to play

USC’s men’s basketball team received some good news on Friday when it was notified by the NCAA Clearinghouse that speedy freshman point guard Angelo Johnson will be eligible to play for the Trojans in the fall semester.

The 5′10″ Johnson, who had taken summer school classes in order to attempt to qualify for the 2007-08 season, is expected to add some much-needed backcourt depth alongside freshmen OJ Mayo and Marcus Simmons and returning guard Daniel Hackett, as well as sophomore swingman Dwight Lewis. Forward Kyle Austin has also been tried as a ball-handler in early practices this year, although that may change with the arrival of Johnson.
