Gameday: USC - Nebraska
Looking to do some in-depth reading about today’s matchup between USC and Nebraska, or get some last-minute game notes? Are you merely curious about how often the phrase “red carpet” can be worked into a headline? We’ve got you covered.
Both teams have something to prove heading into tonight’s contest (5:13 pm kickoff, ABC) in Lincoln, Nebraska. Top-ranked USC is looking to regain some distance between itself and hard-charging LSU in the polls, and to show that any perceived lackluster play in the opener against Idaho was an aberration, while 14th-ranked Nebraska–led by running back Marlon Lucky and Arizona State QB transfer Sam Keller–is seeking revenge for last year’s 28-10 loss to the Trojans, a game remembered for the Cornhuskers’ conservative play.
Some additional notes on today’s game:
- The Trojans are favored by 10 points.
- WR Patrick Turner and RB Chauncey Washington–who each sat out the opener–will definitely play against Nebraska. Turner is likely to start, while Washington should be the first back in after starter CJ Gable.
- LB Brian Cushing (ankle) will dress for the game, but whether or not he actually plays will be a game-time decision. Clay Matthews will start in his place.
- ESPN’s College GameDay crew will be in Lincoln, hosting a live preview show at 7:00am PDT.
- USC is the first #1 team to visit Lincoln since 1978. (Nebraska defeated top-ranked Oklahoma that year.)
- The Trojans have won seven straight nonconference road contests.
- Trojan head coach Pete Carroll is celebrating his 56th birthday on Saturday.
