Thursday practice/injury notes: No news is good news

The Trojans practiced in half pads on Thursday afternoon, with pumped-in crowd noise to help simulate conditions during next Saturday’s contest at Nebraska. Some notes from the relatively uneventful day:

  • DE Kyle Moore sat out after rolling his ankle the day before. He expects to return on Friday.
  • QB Mark Sanchez led the second team offense, and was sharp passing the ball–although he still is unable to receive snaps (while his thumb continues to heal).
  • RB Hershel Dennis is participating in contact drills, but still has not been cleared to play in a game.
  • Freshman tailback Broderick Green attended his first practice (in a motorized cart) since his Tuesday foot surgery. He is still expected to miss 4-6 weeks, and is hoping to avoid redshirting this season (although it is hard to imagine him playing in 2007).
  • Friday’s practice will be held at 6:15 am, with the players taking the remainder of the weekend off. (The coaches, however, will be busy recruiting.)

  1. With H. Dennis getting back into the tailback field, I hope Pete and the rest of the staff stick to their guns and play the very best players each and every game. I don’t want Dennis to get into games just because he’s a great comback story. Same goes for Chauncey. Those guys are seniors who have been through a lot. If they are not better than Stafon and CJ, I don’t want to see them on the field because of some sense of loyalty or seniority. Not that I’m predicting this. In fact, Chauncy very well might be able to beat out the sophs. But if he’s hurting or is a touch slow, hey, you’ve had a good experience at SC, and it’s time to pass the torch.
