Coach McNair convicted of cruelty to animals in the 90’s

According to reports from the Philadelphia Daily News and The Rocky Mountain News (and compiled by Gary Klein of the LA Times), USC running backs coach Todd McNair was found guilty of animal neglect in 1993 (and fined $500) and convicted of cruelty to animals and neglect in 1996 (resulting in $25,000 in fines and 8 hours of community service). Both incidents related to McNair’s reportedly keeping up to 22 pit bulls in poor living conditions and in various states of ill-health, but he was never convicted of dogfighting. McNair did not want to comment “on something 14 years ago,” but Pete Carroll looked into the incidents last week “to make sure we knew what happened,” commenting, “That was a long time ago.”
