Ian Kennedy to start for Yankees on Saturday
Former USC pitcher Ian Kennedy is scheduled to make his major league debut on Saturday for the New York Yankees, with a start against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays in place of the struggling Mike Mussina, the Yankees announced today. A first-round draft pick in 2006, Kennedy began this year in single-A ball, but quickly advanced through AA and AAA, compiling a combined 12-3 record in the minors with a 1.91 ERA. He has been nearly unhittable during his brief stay in AAA ball for the Yankees’ affiliate in Scranton-Wilkes Barre over the past few months, posting a 2.08 ERA with opponents batting just .205 against him.
Kennedy, 22, will be the 95th former Trojan to play in the major leagues.
