Moody transferring?
Scott Wolf is reporting (and the Los Angeles Times is confirming) this evening that tailback Emmanuel Moody has left the USC program and will transfer to another school, possibly Oklahoma State. The sophomore sat out practice and team meetings on Wednesday.
The news does not come as a huge surprise: with ten highly-recruited running backs on the USC roster, many observers felt that at least one transfer was inevitable. And Moody, who has been slowed by an injury, had seemingly fallen behind a much-improved Stafon Johnson and Chauncey Washington on the depth chart during fall camp–and perhaps even behind Allen Bradford and (if healthy) Hershel Dennis. Even freshman Broderick Green seems to be getting increased reps, at least in short-yardage situations. (And we didn’t even mention Joe McKnight, who certainly will find his way into games.) As a result, it was hard to see a situation where Moody was going to get much of a chance to carry the ball. One tailback we didn’t mention above is sophomore CJ Gable, who would be the other name that would not surprise us if announced as a transfer. (Not that we’ve heard anything–that’s only a personal observation.)
In nine games as a true freshman in 2006, Moody gained 484 yards in 79 carries, with 2 touchdowns. If he does indeed transfer to another Division I program, under NCAA rules he would be required to sit out the 2007 season but could play for his new team in 2008.

Unfortunate situation, but hopefully it can turn out well for both Moody and USC. Moody had talent, but it looks like the other guys have stepped it up a bit…can’t wait to see Stafon Johnson, McKnight, and Bradford kick some butt this season! Great job T-Update. Keep the info coming!
so says GalaxyDon, August 16th, 2007 at 12:27amDon’t say that about CJ Gable. He’s a great Trojan. Huge work ethic. I just hope he moves to safety so that year after next he can be an All-American there.
so says Matt, August 16th, 2007 at 12:53amI am certainly not saying that I want Gable to go–he is definitely talented–I just see him maybe getting lost in the shuffle this season and getting a lot less playing time than he did last season. If that happens, I wouldn’t be surprised if he winds up transferring at some point–although he could be like Stafon and use a lack of playing time as motivation to improve even more. (I also like your idea about using him on defense… that could be his better position.)
so says Jason, August 16th, 2007 at 1:29amI’m a little shocked by the news of Moody leaving, but the pressure of having 10 backs (which is really 7 in my mind - somewhat assuming that Tyler will redshirt and Dennis/Reed won’t be getting many chances at RB) had to result in transfers or bad feelings somewhere along the line. After seeing a couple of practices, with a really competitive and determined group, I’ll bet that the first tier Chancey/Bradford/Johnson, with Tyler playing in special situations, and Gable and Green backing them up will work out.
