USC issues men’s basketball preseason press release

USC has issued its official preseason breakdown of the men’s basketball squad for the 2007-08 season. In it, head coach Tim Floyd suggests that the Trojans should have better inside-outside balance this season, despite losing three starters–and 44 points a game–in the back court. Many new faces should see playing time this season, including much-heralded recruits OJ Mayo and F Davon Jefferson, who are joined in the highly-ranked incoming class by defense-minded guard Marcus Simmons, 7-foot center Mamadou Diarra, speedy point guard (if eligible) Angelo Johnson, and G James Dunleavy, the son of LA Clipper coach Mike Dunleavy. In addition, redshirt freshman power forward Kasey Cunningham, who missed all of last season recovering from an injury, is healthy and should contribute.

The Trojans’ top returning players include a trio of sophomores: F Taj Gibson, G Daniel Hackett, and G Dwight Lewis.
