Booty on McKnight: speed of Bush, hands of Smith
Mark Saxon of the Orange County Register previews the USC football team, focusing on the offense. Following a series of player-only workouts this summer, John David Booty made an early assessment of incoming RB/WR Joe McKnight: “It’s almost like he has the speed of Reggie (Bush), but the hands of Steve Smith, if you believe that,” Booty said. “It is kind of like that in a way. It’s really special.”
While it may seem that SC lacks star power at the receiver positions after the losses of Smith and Dwayne Jarrett, Pete Carroll stated “I’m not lacking confidence in this receiving group or any other aspect of this offense…I think we can do anything we want to.” And in contrast the run up to the Arkansas game last year when he was only five months removed from back surgery, Booty feels like a different player physically:
I second-guessed my body last year. I didn’t know how it’d be when I got hit or what would happen. It held up… Now I know it’s going to hold up, and now I’ve built it up. I feel 200 times better than I did last year.
