USC is #1 in preseason coaches poll
It’s a bit anticlimactic at this point, but USC was named the top team in the nation by the 60 coaches voting in the USA Today college football poll, which published its preseason rankings Friday morning. The top ten teams (with first-place votes in parentheses):
- USC (45)
- LSU (4)
- Florida (9)
- Texas
- Michigan (2)
- West Virginia
- Wisconsin
- Oklahoma
- Virginia Tech
- Ohio State
No coach voted USC lower than third on their ballots. It is the third time in the past four seasons that the Trojans have headed into the season ranked first by the coaches. Other Pac-10 teams cracking the Top 25 were Cal at #12 and UCLA at #17. For what it’s worth, USA Today itself predicts USC to face off against West Virginia for the national championship.
The first Associated Press poll of the season will be announced on August 18th, although you already know which school will be ranked #1.

It’s comical that 2 coaches would vote Michigan #1 after the pummeling they received in the Rose Bowl.
so says Marc, August 3rd, 2007 at 3:40amOh, I just assumed Charlie Weis voted twice in the coaches poll.
so says Jason, August 3rd, 2007 at 9:58amThey need to yank Spurrier’s vote. I know he was the one who gave 0-12 Duke a vote. And nothing for Arizona State at all??
