Sarkisian: Early enrollment not a big advantage for QBs
ESPN’s Ivan Maisel interviewed John David Booty and Steve Sarkisian to determine whether graduating early from high school early and enrolling at USC in January is a significant benefit for young quarterbacks. Sarkisian noted that the Trojans staff does not encourage January enrollment, but local signees such as entering QB Aaron Corp of Orange Lutheran are encouraged to attend all spring practices and all quarterbacks meetings so that they can go through critical “mental reps” and acclimate themselves to the system (on and off the field) before fall camp rolls around. Sarkisian commented further on early enrollment for QBs:
It is a nice head start for him. But I don’t think that’s going to be the ultimate in making that kid a great player or not…Is it the overriding advantage to playing early? I can’t say that it is. Ultimately, in the end, the best guys are going to play.
Sarkisian: Nice head start but early arrival no guarantee (ESPN)
