DL Armstead commits to USC

Continuing what is shaping up to be one of USC’s best early-season recruiting classes ever, Elk Grove (Calif.) defensive lineman Armond Armstead announced early Monday evening that he will be attending USC next season. He told Rivals that he actually committed to Trojan head coach Pete Carroll in June, but held off announcing his decision publicly until he could fulfill previous obligations to make unofficial visits to a few other schools.

According to WeAreSC, the 6′4″, 287 pound Armstead will be tried at both tackle and end once he arrives next season. Rivals rates him as four stars and the #17 defensive tackle in the nation, while Scout has him at three stars and the #26 DT. He is the 12th verbal commit (and second defensive lineman) for USC’s class of 2008.
