Everyone knows that Idaho scheduled USC as its 2007 season opener at the request of Nick Holt, former Idaho head coach and current USC defensive coordinator. According to the Idaho Statesman, current Vandals head coach Robb Akey, taking a stab at gallows humor, made light of his team’s brutal September 1 date with pre-season #1 USC, dubbing it a “warmup game”:

‘I thought it was important to have a warmup game,’ Akey said of the Trojans. ‘That’s a good one to get, isn’t it? What better way to make noise in our first ballgame? … We’re going to go into the game expecting to win. You’ve got to do that. But don’t tell SC I said that.’

Oh, we won’t tell, Robb.
