Rivals.com bought by Yahoo!

News comes this morning that recruiting news site Rivals.com–which operates USCFootball.com–has been acquired by Yahoo! for approximately $100 million (or $40 million above what Fox paid to acquire Scout.com two years ago). No word yet on what the acquisition will mean for USCFootball.com, but in a message board post that site’s Ryan Abraham says that he doesn’t expect the basic structure to change (although he does hope that Yahoo!’s designers can spruce up the design a bit).

This development follows last week’s news that several sites in competitor Scout.com’s network–including the USC site WeAreSC.com–will be leaving Scout and trying to make a go of it on their own (or perhaps team up with ESPN in some fashion). There are rumors that Fox will re-brand the remaining Scout network “MySpace Sports,” which doesn’t bode well for Scout.
