The LA Times wraps up its NBA draft coverage by looking for next year’s Greg Oden and Kevin Durant (i.e., one-and-done superstars-in-the-making). And they find them in their own backyard: UCLA’s Kevin Love and USC’s own O.J. Mayo. (As if that’s a surprise.)

We have posted USC’s tentative 2007-08 men’s basketball schedule. Among the preseason games of interest are post-Thanksgiving home contests against Oklahoma and Kansas, a December matchup against Memphis at Madison Square Garden in New York, and the four-day Anaheim Classic tournament at the Honda Center.

The Los Angeles Times has a short profile of RHP Ian Kennedy, who was drafted out of USC by the New York Yankees in 2006 and who was recently elevated to the Yanks’ AA affiliate in Trenton, NJ. In AA and A combined this year, Kennedy has an impressive 1.72 ERA and 102 strikeouts.

Although he was widely expected to go three picks earlier (to the New Orleans Hornets), former Trojan swingman Nick Young was selected 16th overall by the Washington Wizards in the 2007 NBA Draft. He was passed over by his hometown L.A. Clippers, who instead picked Florida State’s Al Thornton at 14.
